Michelle and Carrie go to the prom
When Michelle Obama wore that red and black Narciso Rodriguez frock on election night in 2008, some of us thought “There will be blood.”
The red splatter on the dress suggested the prom night fury of the movie Carrie and reflected campus bloodletting of the past and future: Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook. The bloodied female may represent the anima or “inner female” of angry young men bent on destruction.
Finally, if we put on our CSI cap, we see that the pattern of red suggests knife wounds to the breasts and womb, evidence of an assault on motherhood and femininity.
